I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby resigned a couple hours ago, after being indicted by a federal grand jury on five counts of obstruction of justice, making false statements and perjury. Libby, Vice President Cheney's [former] Chief of Staff, was accused of leaking the identity of undercover CIA agent Valerie Plame. CNN's sources say Karl Rove will not be indicted today, but the investigation on him continues.
Patrick Fitzgerald, the federal prosecutor in the case, just gave an hour long press conference. About five or six times he mentioned the camera and "the people watching at home." What I want to know is: what people? The conference wasn't even on C-SPAN, it was on C-SPAN2. I alone probably made up about 17% of the tv audience.
About a half hour later, Bush gave a pissant statement about the issue that lasted all of two seconds. Cheney's statement included calling Libby "one of the most capable and talented people I have ever known." Of course, coming from Dickers, that probably just means Scooter's good with a home diffibrilator.
